Bail, cost and payment

What is a bail bond?

A bail bond is a financial guarantee that a defendant will appear in court as required. A surety bond involves a bail bond agency and a premium for its service. The court decides the bond amount, the permitted bond type and the conditions of release.

What is the difference between cash bail and a surety bond?

Cash bail is deposited with the court or jail under the court’s instructions. A surety bond is arranged through a bail bond agency. The agency’s premium is different from a court-held cash deposit. Ask which type the court has authorized before paying.

How much does a Hamilton County bail bond cost?

Premiums are available as low as 8% of the full bond amount. Call to confirm the rate and requirements for your bond. The bond amount set by the court and the premium paid to a bail bond agency are different amounts.

Call with the defendant’s name and bond amount for the applicable premium, any required collateral and the total payment needed. We explain the arrangement before you sign. Do not assume a rate or payment arrangement applies to every bond.

What payment methods does Merideth Bonding accept?

You may pay the bail bond premium with cash, check, credit card or debit card. Tell the agent how you plan to pay and ask what you need to bring. Ask about available payment arrangements before committing to the bond.

Is the bail bond premium refundable?

The premium pays for arranging and posting the surety bond; it is not a court-held cash deposit. Once the bond is posted, Merideth’s bail bond premium is non-refundable. Ask the agent to explain the written agreement before you pay. Collateral is separate from the premium.

Is collateral always required?

No. Collateral requirements are decided case by case. Ask whether collateral or a co-signer is required for this bond, what will be accepted, and when and how any collateral will be returned under the agreement.

Can I call if I am worried about cost or my credit?

Yes. Call to discuss the bond and the available payment options. The agent can explain what is required for your situation. Approval, collateral and payment terms should be confirmed individually before you make plans.

Co-signing and court responsibilities

Can a family member or friend help arrange a bond?

Yes. A family member or friend can contact our office about arranging a bond and acting as a co-signer. Bring identification and the information requested by the agent. Co-signing carries financial obligations, so read the agreement and ask questions before signing.

What does indemnitor or co-signer mean?

An indemnitor is the person who signs an agreement taking financial responsibility for the bond. That responsibility may extend beyond the premium you initially pay. Ask the agent to explain the full bond amount, collateral, potential expenses and when your obligations end.

What happens if a court date is missed?

A missed appearance can put the bond at risk and may lead to a warrant and financial consequences under the agreement. Contact the bail bond agent and the defendant’s attorney promptly. Keep track of court dates and release conditions; an agency reminder does not replace those responsibilities.

Can someone travel out of state while on bond?

Travel depends on the court’s release conditions. Check with the attorney or supervising pretrial officer before making plans. Where a request is required, submitting a form is not permission to travel; wait for the required approval. See the county’s out-of-state travel permit request and follow the instructions that apply to your case.

Hamilton County Jail and local help

What information should I have when I call?

Have the person’s full name, date of birth and the facility where they are held ready. A booking number and bond amount are useful if known. You can still call if you are missing information; we can explain the next step.

When can a Hamilton County Jail bond be posted?

Call us to discuss the current bond-posting procedure and any appointment arrangements. Eligibility, jail processing and holds can affect when a bond can be posted and when release can occur. Our agents are available seven days a week, but a call does not reserve a jail appointment.

How long will release take?

Release timing depends on the jail’s processing, the bond requirements and any holds in the case. Our office is next to Hamilton County Jail, but proximity does not guarantee a release time. Ask about the current situation when you call.

Where can I check whether someone is in custody?

Use the official Hamilton County current-inmate search. Confirm the identity and facility before arranging a bond. If the person is not listed or the information is unclear, contact the jail or call our office for help with the next step.

What is the Hamilton County Jail phone number?

The jail’s public phone number is (317) 776-9800. For Merideth Bonding bail bond assistance, call (317) 773-4001. These are separate offices.

Can you help after an arrest in Fishers, Carmel or another Hamilton County town?

We help families from Noblesville, Fishers, Carmel, Westfield, Cicero, Sheridan, Arcadia and Atlanta when the defendant is held at Hamilton County Jail. Confirm the holding facility first. We only write bonds for Hamilton County Jail, rather than for every jail in Indiana.

Can I call at night, on a weekend or from outside Indiana?

Yes. Merideth Bonding is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. You can call from another city or state when helping someone held at Hamilton County Jail. Tell the agent you are arranging help from outside the area.

Where do I find court contacts, warrant information or appointed-counsel forms?

Use the official local resources below. Hamilton County’s courts are at 1 Hamilton County Square in Noblesville. Use the court directory to confirm the correct court, phone number and courtroom. Indiana MyCase provides public case information, but it is not a definitive warrant check. Ask the court or your attorney about a possible warrant.

Who regulates bail agents in Indiana?

The Indiana Department of Insurance handles bail agent licensing. When choosing an agency, ask for the agent’s licensing information and an explanation of the written bond agreement.
